Tips for visiting Madrid

  • Metro trips to or from the airport add a €3 supplement to the normal fare, but Tourist Travel Passes that include the airport zone do not need it.
  • Contactless bank cards cannot be tapped at the metro gates; you need a rechargeable Tarjeta Multi card, which costs €2.50.
  • The Zone A Tourist Travel Pass covers metro, buses and Cercanías trains, and costs €8.40 for one day or €18.40 for three days.
  • The Airport Express bus runs a flat fare and switches its city terminus from Atocha to Cibeles between 23:30 and 06:00.
